Pictorus Acquired by Renesas

Pictorus Acquired by Renesas

Big news! Today we’re bringing Pictorus into the Renesas Electronics family through acquisition.

With more than 100,000 engineers designing advanced electronics with Altium Designer (acquired by Renesas in 2024), and over 3.5 billion microcontrollers shipped annually by Renesas, this brings Pictorus to an enormous audience across automotive, robotics, aerospace, and industrial engineering.

Modern PCB design is increasingly software-defined: the application layer dictates microprocessor requirements, peripheral layout, and power consumption. Integrating Pictorus’s memory-safe, model-based embedded software tooling into the Renesas 365 platform will help close the loop on software/hardware co-development.

We started Pictorus because embedded firmware development still asks engineers to stitch together too many disconnected tools and workflows. We believe engineers deserve something more modern and cohesive. The fit with the Renesas team has been remarkably strong, as Renesas 365 is pushing toward many of the same goals across a uniquely broad hardware and software ecosystem. We’re excited to help build that future together.

As part of this transition, the Pictorus website and user accounts are temporarily unavailable while we complete platform and infrastructure updates. We appreciate your patience during this process and look forward to sharing more as things progress.

Onwards and upwards 🚀
