What's New in Pictorus - Q3 '24

Fresh off our recent seed fundraise last quarter, in Q3 we've already shipped a ton of new features, from UI tools to communication protocols, which we'd like to share with you today.

CAN Support

Pictorus now supports the CAN messaging protocol, one of the backbone technologies of vehicle system communication. All that is required is a DBC file which defines the message encoding/decoding your network uses, and an active CAN port. You'll notice a CAN Receive block in the Input section of the Block Palette and a Can Transmit block in the Output section. Simply select the message type you wish to transmit or receive from the drop-down list, and you're done!

Copy/Export Plot Data

We've added copy and export options to our plot menu, allowing users to easily grab a stream of data from Pictorus and reference it elsewhere for post-analysis.

Search for Blocks

Blocks and Components are now searchable. Right click and select 'Search' or use the cmd/ctrl+F keyboard shortcut to search for a block or component by name. Clicking on one of the results will navigate you to the block location within your app. This is a huge timesaver when you're not exactly sure where something is but have an idea what it's named or what block type it is.

Improved edge connections

Until today you've only been able to connect blocks forward from the sender block to the receiver block. Now you can do the reverse. You can also connect an edge back to an existing edge.

Terminal Debug Window

We consolidated info, warning, and error messages into an IDE-style debug window, making it easier to scroll through the time history of your development session. This will give users finer-grain control to filter different message types and severities over time, and includes message from the UI, the compile server, and your devices. At any time you can minimize the window to free up canvas space, and important messages will still pop up as usual.
